About the ISSO

Tsunami Disaster

The International Students and Scholars Office joins the entire university in expressing our support and concern to all those affected by the recent tsunami in South Asia. We send our condolences to all those who may have lost loved ones in this terrible tragedy. We share in the grief and ongoing concern that the entire world feels.

We are all deeply saddened by this event, and the staff at the ISSO is available to provide support to any members of the Cornell Community who have suffered a loss as a result of this tragedy. We urge you to contact the ISSO whenever you are able to do so. The ISSO will try to assist to the best of our ability.

During this time of need, many may wish to make a donation to the relief efforts. For a list of organizations providing aid to the region, see the following web pages:

There is also a local fundraising effort which is underway. Mazalan Kamis, a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Education, has established an account to assist in the relief effort. To donate or to obtain further information, you may visit the web site or e-mail Mazalan at mailto:mbk33@cornell.edu

We hope that all of the Cornell University international students, scholars, and family members have a happy and safe year in 2005.

Sincerely,
Brendan O'Brien
